General Information

Power Up: Ashtanga flow and fitness: is an interpretation of traditional Ashtanga Yoga. The class is based on a strict sequence of movements. Each posture is designed to cleanse, strengthen, and balance the body with the goal to achieve mental relaxation. Inserted between the asana flow of postures will be the exploration of how to improve strength and achieve a deeper connection to the muscles fibers, ligaments and tendons in the body. Power Up emphasizes the flow of moving from one position to the next while incorporating the breath. The body becomes an object of continuous callisthenic movement. The goal of Power Up yoga is to combine a modern group exercise class with the traditions of an ancient practice.

Andes Hruby has spent 30 years as a certified fitness instructor in five disciplines and graduated Columbia University with an MFA in writing. The American Council on Exercise accredits her as a Health Coach, Personal Trainer and Group Exercise Facilitator. To better balance her body Hruby began her training in the Ashtanga community under Beryl Bender Birch, David Swenson, and Nancy Gilgoff. Hruby was previously the NBC Fit Guru of Connecticut, and for over a decade was the owner of Studio Blue: Fitness Made Fun.  She currently writes a lifestyle and fitness column for ConciergeQ  (http://www.conciergequestionnaire.com/ur_here/story.php?id=244)  and has been a contributor at: Glamour, Elle, Allure, Cosmopolitan, Marie Claire and numerous on-line zines and blogs. After an injury she focused her fitness education exploring the connection between tendons and ligaments in the yoga practice. Hruby has also turned her attention toward coordinating unique retreats at Manu Yoga Retreats
