About 15 minutes from Dominical on the newly paved road north to Quepos and Manuel Antonio is the location of a secret beach called Playa Guapil. This deserted wide sand beach with plenty of shady palms and natural walking trails is only minutes away from Manu Villas.
A sandy trail runs parallel to the beach and connects Playa Guapil to Playa Baru which is another pristine beach in front of the Hacienda Baru Nature Reserve. It is possible to walk south from Playa Guapil to Playa Baru and all the way to the mouth of the Baru River (20-30 minutes), where you will stand just a stream apart from the fishermen and surfers at the northern end of Playa Dominical.
At the northern end of Quapil the Hatillo river enters the ocean. At high tide it is possible to enter the river and the Hatillo mangroves with a kayak end explore this untouched habitat of monkeys and small caymans.
The small road to Playa Guapil enters right across the Quapil nursery on the main highway about 1km after the gas station on the left side if you head towards Quepos.
